i am terrible at New Year's Resolutions. terrible. i'd like to think that i am continually setting goals, not just making them annually. but really this is my lame excuse for not actually making, setting, and especially achieving, my new year's resolutions.
so this year i am going to try something new: a 1 word goal.1 goal, 1 word. that is accomplishable.
i mulled over a few words, even tried to find some esoteric words and nothing seemed quite right until i started looking at the opposite of what i want to be. when i looked up indolence, or lazy, i found my winner: INDUSTRIOUS.
here is the definition:
in.dus.tri.ous [in-duhs-tree-uh s]
-adjective
1. working energetically and devotedly; hard-working; diligent: an industrious person.
2. skillful or clever
i like this word. i really like this word.
this year i will try to become more. . .industrious.
here are some quotes to make you feel fuzzy about being industrious:
"industry, thrift and self-control are not sought because they create wealth, but because they cause character." -Calvin Coolidge
"All things are easy to industry, all things are difficult to sloth" -Benjamin Franklin
"like the bee, we should make our industry our amusement." -Oliver Goldsmith
"It is not enough to be industrious; so are the ants. what are you industrious about?" --Henry David Thoreau i made this last one ginormous to a)be bigger than ants and b) because it is my favorite. i get to spend a year discovering things to be industrious about. i'd like to start with sewing. any other suggestions?
